JANUARY 2027 CIVIC LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

How are you preparing the people who are going to lead your organization next?

Capable employees are often promoted because they know the work. The Civic Leadership Academy helps them prepare for the people side of leadership before avoidable conflict, weak documentation, and inconsistent supervision become organizational problems.

THE LEADERSHIP TRANSITION

Knowing the work is not the same as knowing how to lead people.

New supervisors are expected to manage former peers, address performance, navigate conflict, document decisions, and develop others—often without a practical leadership map.

THE OUTCOME

Prepare the leader before the vacancy becomes an emergency.

  • Lead former peers with clarity and consistency
  • Delegate without losing accountability
  • Address performance concerns earlier
  • Document decisions more consistently
  • Develop the next leadership bench

WHY MUNICIPALITIES SHOULD ACT NOW

The municipal leadership pipeline is under pressure.

Georgia's retirement and administrative turnover figures show why cities need prepared successors. When supervisors lack the skills to apply policy, document decisions, and address conflict, routine problems can become workforce disruption and damage to public trust.

~10,000

Georgia retirement eligibility

MissionSquare survey

Georgia figures describe municipalities in Georgia; the succession figure comes from a national survey of state and local government employers. These are sector indicators, not a diagnosis of any one city.

DOCUMENTED PUBLIC-SECTOR CONSEQUENCES

After a failure, municipalities may pay—and still have to build the system.

Public matters involving Hammond, Indiana; Georgia state and county agencies; and Kauai County resulted in monetary relief together with training, policy, reporting, or complaint-process requirements. A DOJ consent decree for Ferguson specifically required scenario-based training for new and current supervisors, including performance documentation and misconduct investigations.

The Civic Leadership Academy is leadership-development and workplace-application training. It complements—and does not replace—legal, HR, EEO, ADA, FMLA, or harassment-compliance training required by a municipality.
